BATH HOUSE
Have you ever noticed these older ladies in the pool who refuse to get their hair wet? I was inspired by them when I started this series. Bath houses are fascinating: people get together to bath and swim, being stripped of visual identities such as clothing choices. You don’t know what subcultures they belong to, all that’s left is behaviour. I love seeing these older women trying to stay far away from the water surface, (apparently the chlorine messes with color dye of their hair). In my illustration I turned their heads into small rooftops, keeping them dry. The men are spending their day in the sauna, their chest hair attached to their bodies like stamps in the blistering heat. In the last slide I’m sharing my sketchbook doodles where the illustrations started.
